Inner Fire Yogi since November 2018
In November 2018, I stepped into Inner Fire Yoga (West) for the first time. I had been looking for a fun activity for the staff of my non-profit (LOV Inc.) to do together, and Inner Fire seemed perfect. We had a great bonding experience doing Power Flow together, and I was reminded of just how much I love yoga. One thing that stuck out from that first class was the sensation of all my toes being completely warm, which doesn’t happen often for me in the wintertime.
I was thrilled to deepen my Inner Fire Yoga journey when the East location opened near my home a few months later. I didn’t jump into membership right away but instead built my practice by going to the weekly Community Rate Inner Fire Flow 75 with Jane. The discount made a big difference in my budget, and the energy in the class was always great. I still remember how hot it seemed the first time I tried the class. I kept looking around the room, wondering if this was the normal amount of heat, and why no one else seemed to be struggling with it like I was.
One of the benefits of yoga for me has always been the permission to set aside any burdens and stressors while I focus on breathing and moving. I often feel like I’m floating after class because it takes some time for the real world to settle back onto my shoulders. As a non-profit director, that sense of lightness, even just for an hour or two, helps me stay balanced and effective at work.
At LOV Inc., I’m responsible for my team and making difficult decisions, and while I love my work, I also love showing up to a place where no one has any expectations of me. It’s okay to be quiet and reflective here, or to jokingly warn newcomers about Anne’s classes. No one needs to know that I mostly go to Tony’s class for the cool towels at the end. There’s a sense of belonging here that I’ve felt from the first time I stepped in the doors, and that’s something rare.
