I've practiced hot yoga for over 7 years and knowing that the Original 26&2 sequence would always stay the same – no matter what my grades were, where I was, or what was going on in the world – has always brought me peace.
I moved here from Massachusetts in 2024 to begin graduate school at UW, already knowing I would join Inner Fire Yoga. At the Open House, I was welcomed with that good ol' Midwestern kindness that I thought was only a stereotype. I immediately fell in love with the studio and its community, and instructors like Anne Morgan helped solidify that I was exactly where I needed to be. I had found a home away from home.
I was initially drawn to hot yoga to help manage my chronic pain due to hypermobility. The instructors here go above and beyond in providing safe and creative modifications for me (shout out to Kara for transforming my Yin practice).
"Sharing my practice, and now teaching the 26&2 sequence, feels like sharing a piece of myself."
While yoga certainly has been key in keeping my symptoms at bay, it has brought me so much more. Having a physical manifestation of my mental wellbeing has allowed me to be more in tune with myself and others. It has taught me that it's okay to not be perfect and that life, and my practice, is not black-and-white. Most importantly, it reminds me that we don't have to take ourselves so seriously all the time. We're allowed to make mistakes and giggle and have fun!
I always joke that bringing my friends to yoga is my love language, but I'm only half-joking. Sharing my practice, and now teaching the 26&2 sequence, feels like sharing a piece of myself.
When I'm not at Inner Fire Yoga or in Engineering Hall, you can find me staring at the birds at my birdfeeder, shooting film photography, or making coffee (I used to be a barista so not to brag but I make really good coffee).
