Yoga TeacherAt my core, I am a teacher. I endeavor to share the knowledge I have acquired over many years, from the lineage and teachers I admire with the utmost respect. I strive to connect with students, share impactful practices, and help individuals find strength in the body they bring to the mat each practice.
As a person inhabiting a hypermobile body, I have focused my studies on injury prevention and strength building. It is my hope to share the techniques that have worked for me with interested and earnest students, regardless of mobility or range.
My relationship with yoga began at the age of 17, when curiosity led me into a deep dive through various yogic traditions. In 2014, after many years of experience as a dedicated practitioner, I completed a 200-hour alignment-based teacher training program where I first began my journey as a student. Shortly thereafter, I participated in an additional vinyasa specific teacher training to hone my class structure. In 2018, I completed an immersive 300-hour teacher training at Samahita Retreat in Thailand with Paul Dallaghan, Arielle Nash, and Sri O.P. Tiwari. Modules included somatics, myofascial release, advanced anatomy, pranayama, and classical texts.
Most recently, I completed well over 200 hours apprenticing with Shelley Enlow in the Ashtanga Yoga lineage. The apprenticeship taught me how to share Ashtanga traditions and the direct Sanskrit to English translations. More than that, the thorough application of hands-on assisting and adjusting, cuing for deeper understanding, and leveraging of props to make postures more accessible and versatile gave me invaluable experience for both my teaching and personal practice. The rich tapestry of my yogic background influences the classes I teach, as I strive to share the traditions that have shaped my own knowledge base.
My background in physical movement is extensive beyond the mat – I have completed several other teacher training courses focused in Pilates, anatomy, and barre. From 2013 to 2019, I taught yoga, dance, Pilates, and barre full time. A career shift back to academia in 2019 inspired a blend of Eastern philosophies with Western research, and I currently examine contemplative practices in the intersection of climate change and mental health as a postdoctoral research fellow.
