What is Inner Fire BURN?

by Marit Sathrum, Owner/Director/Teacher

Have you heard about Inner Fire Yoga’s latest class: Inner Fire BURN? We decided to shake things up a bit with this new offering. It’s a combo of mat pilates moves and high intensity interval training (HIIT) in a heated room.

The benefits of HIIT have been widely studied and reported. And wow are they amazing! They include (from Nike.com and Healthline.com):

  • IMPROVE  BRAIN HEALTH 🧠HIIT has proven to improve neuroplasticity and memory, and increase gray matter.

  • BURN MORE CALORIES 🙌 Burn as many calories in 15 minutes of HIIT as 60  minutes of steady state cardio exercise.

  • INCREASE METABOLIC RATE 🎉 HIIT is an anaerobic exercise which increases oxygen intake which in turn requires our bodies to work harder.

  • IMPROVES PERFORMANCE 🏃‍♀️ Increase speed, agility, endurance and power.

  • IMPROVE HEART HEALTH 💖Proven to lower blood pressure and heart rate recovery time.

  • PRESERVE MUSCLE MASS 💪Helps to retain muscle mass.

  • SAVE TIME 🕖 HIIT is known for its efficiency: maximum benefits in minimal time. In fact, research has shown that even as little as 5 minutes of HIIT has immense benefits!

Now, how can you not want to give Inner Fire BURN a try, knowing the amazing benefits it offers?!

At Inner Fire Yoga, yoga will always be our main focus. As we all know, and research has supported, yoga practice itself has amazing long term benefits, and not just physical. We’ve decided to try offering BURN not just to shake things up, but because we think it is a great compliment to regular yoga practice, with minimum time needed.

In fact, our vision for Inner Fire Yoga is based on the yoga principle “tapas”, meaning fiery discipline or internal flame. Tapas burn away physical and mental roadblocks leading to a state of mental focus and physical freedom. BURN supports the philosophy of tapas – so that we can Reach Higher 🌈 and Burn Brighter 🔥 at Inner Fire Yoga!

Our BURN classes have a similar arc to them as most of our yoga classes: we start slow, peak in the middle, then end slow. Burn classes start with a short warm up, then 20 minutes of standing movements, topped off with 5 minutes of HIIT such as jumping jacks, burpees, running in place, etc., followed by 20 minutes of floor movements (back and belly) and a short cool down.

We work as hard as we can for 30 seconds then rest for 15 seconds, doing three rounds of each movement in several sets. The class is 45 minutes in a heated room, which causes the mat pilates movements to actually become HIIT exercises, with empowering and fun party music 🎵

We are offering BURN pop-ups over the summer and hope that you’ll be able to find a pop-up that’ll work for you. If we get enough positive feedback, we’ll add BURN to our regular schedule starting this autumn. If you attend a pop-up, we’ll send you a survey so you can let us know what you think, and where you’d like to see it on the schedule, if that’s what you want.

Between regular yoga classes and some BURN classes in between, it’s like a FULL MEAL DEAL🍔🍟🥤 Please join us and experience the amazing benefits our Inner Fire BURN class offers! Book an Inner Fire BURN Pop-Up class and feel the BURN for yourself 🙂🔥
